RESEARCH

PDT's research philosophy is integrated with our human-centered design methodologies. Our team is experienced in uncovering insights and delivering concepts that are culturally relevant market-ready products. To become the new lead of PDT's research effort, you must have solid client presentation experience and the ability to structure a multi-phase research program from client need assessment through design discovery. With six domestic design offices and three international design teams, this position will interface with a variety of clients and PDT teams.

The goal of PDT Graphic User Interface Design team is to make the best experience possible for a user throughout the product visually, both logically and emotionally. Our GUI group is required to pay unprecedented attention to detail. We seek team players with the ability to handle all aspects of User Interface development, including research, analysis, ideation, diagramming, documentation, and graphic design. Our designers work closely with the client and internal team, therefore must have the ability to communicate ideas effectively, both verbally and visually. Therefore, the ability to find countless solutions during the problem solving process is essential. The position requires dedication and creative thinking. Phenomenal use of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop are vital. Flash knowledge is a plus. A degree in Visual Communications or similar field is required.

Location: Lake Zurich, Illinois

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Research and understand a product from both the users and clients perspectives.
  • Create user experience flow diagrams.
  • Develop multiple solutions to a problem.
  • Conceptualize and finalize stunning yet appropriate graphics.
  • Mockup interactive experience models.
  • Work well in a group and individually.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Visual Communication or similar field.
  • Phenomenal use of Illustrator and Photoshop. Flash is plus.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

PDT's mechanical engineering environment is one of fast paced design. Its team members are expected to take ideas from inception to production for a wide range of products, from simple to sophisticated, from industrial to personal markets. Team work and exceptional communication skills are required as cross functional groups work with user research, industrial design, electrical engineering as well as tooling, fabrication, and molding. The atmosphere is like none other, close knit, huge experience base and always involved with the customer and product. That is ME at PDT!

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING & SOFTWARE

PDT's electrical and software engineering departments require engineers who can see beyond the circuits and embedded code, able to envision a products use and anticipate how the product interacts with its environment. It's more than a man-machine exercise at PDT-EE, its working with engineers from around the world to make cost effective solutions for all areas of industry. We work on Medical, Military, and Consumer Electronics using the latest design techniques, tools, and test equipment. Your objective is to create products that become segment leaders through innovative design. That is EE at PDT.

PROTOTYPING

PDT's prototyping department is in search of a self-motivated machinist or model-maker for their Chicago-Area shop. We seek individuals with broad experience in programming and running CNC vertical mills to quickly create prototypes in metals and plastics. The ideal candidate would have excellent computer and machining skills and be able to work in a fast-paced and creative environment. Finishing skills are a plus.

CAV

PDT's Computer Aided Verification department requires a highly organized person with a technical background and excellent communication skills. A member of the CAV department must be prepared to perform a variety of functions that may include preparing quotes, providing technical support to existing and potential customers, operating the scanning equipment, preparing inspection reports and analyzing results. The applicant must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications. An engineering degree and experience with Solidworks or Pro/E are considered a plus.

SHORT RUN PRODUCTION

The ideal candidate will have a keen attention to fine detail and quality, while being able to learn quickly and adapt to changing requirements. You must have the ability to communicate effectively through both written and verbal instruction. Be prepared to perform a range of tasks from very simple and repetitive to complex. Familiarity with circuit boards and ESD are a plus.

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN INTERNSHIP

PDT's Industrial Design group is searching for highly energetic, passionate ID Interns.

Essential Capabilities:

  • Ability to balance both work and play, while collaborating alongside ethnographic user researchers, mechanical engineers and the like
  • Adept at actively listening, brainstorming and iterating numerous innovative solutions to the problem at hand
  • Immensely curious about the relationship between users and products, and can empathize with end users

Sample Work Should Highlight:

  • 2D and 3D visualization, including conceptual and refined sketch work
  • Developmental methodology
  • 2D and 3D rendering skills
  • 3D CAD modeling proficiency (Rhino/SolidWorks/Pro-E)
  • Fluency with Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator
  • Your unique skill set
