Gramovox Floating Record Player IDEA Award Winner

Product Development Technologies (PDT) Wins Silver at International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA)

CHICAGO —August 17th, 2016— Product Development Technologies (PDT), a global, full-service product development firm, is thrilled to announce that the Gramovox Floating Record Player has been honored with a Silver Award at the 36th annual International Design Excellence Awards® (IDEA®) – a premiere design competition sponsored annually by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). The Gramovox Floating Record Player was selected from a field of more than 1,700 projects from 30-plus countries that competed in IDEA 2016.

The Floating Record Player is a high-performance turntable that plays records vertically through built-in, dynamic, full-range stereo speakers (or via RCA line out). Designed for everyone from first-time record listeners to seasoned vinyl enthusiasts, the Floating Record delivers a visceral experience that showcases the record as both art and as a medium to produce analog sound.

“Winning a top IDEA Award is one of the most prestigious honors within the design industry,” said Frank Pistorio, Lead Project Engineer at PDT. “Gramovox proved to be a challenging design, but the end result is a unique, aesthetically pleasing record player that maintains a very high level of sound quality, especially for its price point.”

IDEA 2016 winners span a wide range of 21 categories such as social impact; medical and scientific innovations; transportation; home and garden; office; personal accessories; children’s products; sporting goods; and much more. IDSA Board of Directors Chair John Barratt—himself a former IDEA jury chair—hails the competition as “the authority on design”—showcasing new designs in products that are used every day, and products featuring first-of-a-kind innovations.

The International Design Excellence Awards or IDEA® is a premier international design competition, recognizing and promoting design excellence.
