Learning Resources came to PDT to develop a compelling and exciting new CD Card Reader geared for children, ages 3 to 10. Given a product definition summary outlining basic features, some technical specifications and examples of user scenarios, PDT’s design team conducted an internal brainstorm session to generate a wide range of conceptual approaches for the new design. The team explored analogous products within the children’s learning product space, examined competitive products and market trends and available user research to further stimulate the design concept exploration. From the brainstorming sessions a range of preliminary concept design directions were created, exploring alternative aesthetics, forms, sizes and user interfaces. Selected details and features generated from the preliminary designs were integrated into one product design for refinement. Color, texture and aesthetics were chosen and the final detailed design was completed. The innovative Radius™ Audio Learning System combines the benefits of an interactive CD with advanced digital card-reading capabilities to create a whole new teaching platform!
