PDT worked with PaperMate to bring innovation to mechanical pencils, embodied in Advancer® - the first self-advancing mechanical pencil from the brand. Advancer, a headliner in PaperMate's back-to-school writing instrument offering, minimizes lead breakage using its patented lead advance system based on a retracting tip and spring mechanism. Advancer's ′hidden magic′ lies in its auto-advancing mechanism. As an individual writes, the mechanical pencil's mechanism automatically moves the lead forward, eliminating the need to stop, manually advance the lead, then begin writing again. The design priority was to portray the functionality and the emotion of moving forward. The combination of design, mechanics and a little bit of ′magic′ make Advancer the most exciting new writing utensil to hit the market in 2004.
