The goal for the CES Design and Engineering Award winning RTI U2 remote was to take the basic features of RTI's existing M2 remote and add waterproof capabilities to offer consumers a remote that is both submersible and able to float, suitable for use around pools, hot tubs, and on yachts. PDT designed the U2 remote including conception on overall form, shape, button layout and color. The goal of the team was to create a design that fit the pool and hot tub environment, yet sleek enough to fit in with high end yacht applications. For inspiration, the team used high speed watercraft and personal watercraft imagery that communicated 'sleek and fast'. PDT's mechanical engineering team was challenged with the task of creating a waterproof unit that incorporates a window for the LCD display. A waterproof membrane switch panel was chosen to seal the front of the unit while allowing for the LCD display.
