Firefly looked to PDT to update their existing glowPhone handset targeted at "tweens", kids 8 to 12 years old. PDT's team of industrial designers, user interface developers and mechanical engineers were tasked with maintaining similar functionality of the existing phone while incorporating added features that "tweens" are looking for including gaming, customizable ringtones and wallpapers. The team worked to incorporate a 5-way navigation cluster allowing the glowPhone to support the new features and offer simplified menu navigation and gaming. PDT's designers explored appropriate colors that suit the tastes of the "tween" group. The UI group was challenged with upgrading the handset with a full color screen and adding menus that utilize a simple navigation cluster. Safety features, including an emergency button and flash light make this phone a parent's best friend. The new handset is helping Firefly stay cost, technology and feature set competitive in the market.
