Existing office binders generally lack aesthetic appeal and are often seen purely as a functional item. Fellowes, aiming to break this trend, turned to PDT to design the new Galaxy binder. As the flagship of the binder range it had to boast fresh aesthetic design and innovation. It was important that the Galaxy looked suitable for its purpose as a heavy duty and reliable piece of office equipment. The design theme, inspired by the automotive industry, was driven by the styling of the recently redesigned range of Fellowes’ binders and laminators.
To give the Galaxy an edge over its competition, many unique, user beneficial features were incorporated into the design. These include a powered punching system, pull out storage trays for paper and combs, integral document measuring facility, removable chip tray, fully adjustable margin and paper width settings, selectable punches and a removable binding mechanism that allows two users to operate the machine simultaneously known as the "Satellite System". The ability to adjust critical operational settings easily is essential to making the machine more ergonomic to the end user. All areas for human interaction, such as handles, controls and pull out trays, are clearly defined and easily accessible to the operator and have been ergonomically developed to allow the operation of all functions with minimum effort and confusion.
